FODI Families Visited Souter Lighthouse

On August 14th, FODI members visited Souter Lighthouse and the Leas, using our National Trust Community Pass, which FODI , amongst others,   has been given in a scheme to make local NT properties free for charities and local communities.

We travelled on the new electric bus from Sunderland and were blessed with sunshine . We visited the Engine room, whose workings were explained by NT volunteer Geoff and the Lighthouse keeper’s cottage.  Both children and adults had fun in the interactive room with games and video after the climb up the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, from which the view is amazing. Not a climb for those with vertigo!

After lunch in the fabulous new Conservation Centre, the children happily played with sports equipment and ran about on the Foghorn field, playing football with NT apprentice Lily.

FODI is really grateful to the National Trust for the pass and to Amelia,  Pearl and Lily for organising our day and to volunteer Geoff for the guided tour. Both adults and children had a great time at this beautiful Lighthouse.
