Chair’s message: every year Refugee Week in Sunderland seems to get bigger and better. This year with the theme of “Courage” there were 16 events for FODI service users and volunteers to enjoy along with members of the local community. The Trustees of FODI wish to thank our staff and volunteers for their contribution, and also our much-valued partners in the city: Roker United Reformed Church, Sunderland City of Sanctuary, Sunderland College, Young Asian Voices, ICOS (International Community of Sunderland), Sunderland Samba, Back On The Map, Fightback, Solidarity Sunderland, NAS/UWT (teaching union), Southpaw Company, Sunderland Minster and Unity in the Community. Quite a team!
Events included craft activities for children, a football tournament and a cricket match, sharing of food and life experiences, a walk around the city ending with a picnic, two very different drama performances, a music event, and yoga and dance for our women’s group.
We’re looking forward to Refugee Week 2027 already!
